Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences - Climate Geography

High-Performance Computing Cluster (Cirrus)

In the climate geography group, a high-performance computing cluster (HPCC) with currently 400 CPU cores (20 nodes with 2 Intel Xeon E5-2640 v4 processors each) is used for climate data analysis and climate modelling. The HPCC has 140 TB disk space and 5 TB storage in the HU SAN system. A Rstudio server enables direct access to the data in the analysis. Furthermore the device is used for the preparation and interactive presentation of the institute's weather and climate data on the geography website. The HPCC is also used in teaching, e.g. in courses at the Institute of Geography and at external events like the Geo.X Autumn School.
